Role Overview: Hospital Security Officer
The Security Team plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors across the hospital grounds. As a Hospital Security Officer, the successful candidate will provide frontline support, managing incidents, responding to alarms, monitoring CCTV, and assisting with access control. This position is ideal for someone who remains calm under pressure, has excellent observational skills, and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of others.
Key Responsibilities of a Hospital Security Officer
- Monitor and operate CCTV systems and respond to all duress alarms within the hospital site
- Assist with the management of aggressive or distressed patients and visitors
- Provide directions and general assistance to visitors across the site
- Locate and return missing or confused patients to their wards
- Help staff move patients around the hospital when required
- Conduct regular patrols and monitor parking facilities, issuing tickets as appropriate
- Escort staff, patients’ property, or cash safely within the hospital
- Issue ID/access cards and manage electronic database records
- Maintain strong working relationships with departments, wards, and external partners (e.g. Police)
- Collect and provide evidence under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 when necessary
- Represent the hospital in legal proceedings related to theft, violence, or property damage
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a security-related role, ideally in healthcare or public service
- Confident using CCTV and electronic security systems
- Excellent communication and de-escalation skills
- Ability to remain professional in stressful or emotionally charged situations
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols and legal procedures (e.g. PACE 1984)
- Comfortable working with vulnerable individuals and large public footfall
- Physically capable of patrolling hospital grounds and escorting individuals as needed
Shift Pattern & Pay
- Full-time, Permanent Contract
- Shift-based work covering days, nights, and weekends
