Role Overview

As a Security Officer at Heathrow, candidates will be responsible for delivering a wide range of security duties across the airport. From passenger screening and access control to patrols and incident response, this role combines vigilance, professionalism, and excellent customer service. Security Officers are the first line of defence in maintaining safety while also creating a reassuring and positive experience for passengers.

This position is suited to individuals who are proactive, resilient, and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities as Security Officer

  • Carry out security screening including bag searches, X-ray monitoring, body searches, and passenger interviews.
  • Perform aircraft searches and access control across airport areas.
  • Operate approved security equipment such as metal detectors, ETD machines, and handheld devices.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate records and incident reports.
  • Liaise with management and external agencies when required.
  • Deliver a professional and approachable service, assisting passengers with information and directions.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5-year checkable work history (must have UK residency for the last 3 years).
  • Full colour vision and good hearing to required standards.
  • Physical fitness to manage long periods of standing, sitting, walking, and bending.
  • Strong English communication skills (additional languages are a bonus).
  • Professional, punctual, and customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Must be 18+ to start training.
  • Willing to undergo full pre-employment, criminal record, and counter-terrorism checks.
  • Available for full-time initial training (3 weeks) and early starts from 04:15am.

Shift Pattern & Pay

  • Permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week).
  • £13.85 per hour.
  • Shift-based roster including early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime opportunities.
  • 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts available to cover 24/7 operations.
