Role Overview

We’re looking for a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our Search Team and shape the future of how customers discover products on BigCommerce. In this fully remote role, you’ll lead the design and development of advanced AI and vector-based search technologies that power intuitive and personalized shopping experiences.

Key Responsibilities as Mid-Level Software Engineer – Search

• Architect and develop cutting-edge search solutions using AI and vector search methods
• Support and enhance the search indexing pipeline using RabbitMQ and Redis
• Mentor fellow engineers to drive quality and innovation
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, UX, and Data Science
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in search, AI, and machine learning
• Optimize search performance and relevance to elevate the customer experience
• Work on personalized search features using AI-driven models

Skills & Experience Required

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in software development
• 1+ years working with distributed messaging tools like RabbitMQ or Kafka
• Strong coding skills in PHP, Scala/Java, and SQL
• Experience with Elasticsearch and core search concepts
• Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with vector or AI-powered search systems
• Familiarity with NLP and machine learning models
• Exposure to microservices architecture and cloud-native tools
