Role Overview

The Cathedral is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Security to lead its security operations. This pivotal leadership role carries responsibility for safeguarding people, property, and treasured artefacts, while ensuring that the Cathedral remains an open and welcoming place of worship. Acting as Chief Security Officer, the successful candidate will advise senior management on all aspects of security—from daily operations to national counter-terrorism developments—and deliver a provision that is both robust and reassuring.

This is an ideal position for a proven security professional who can combine operational expertise with strong leadership and a sensitivity to the ethos of a church environment.

Key Responsibilities as Head of Security

 

Lead all aspects of security across the Westminster Cathedral estate

  • Manage security contractors and the Receptionist Supervisor
  • Oversee CCTV, access control, and intruder alarm systems
  • Build strong relationships with police, local authorities, and external security agencies
  • Plan and deliver security for large-scale events including liturgical services and concerts
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery, crisis management, and business continuity plans
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement effective safety measures
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers are trained in emergency procedures

Skills & Experience Required

  • Significant experience in security management within large, public-facing environments
  • Strong knowledge of security systems, risk management, and public safety
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, including health & safety and data protection for CCTV
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and motivate teams
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Calm, pragmatic approach under pressure
  • Sensitivity to working within a church or faith-based environment

Pay & Contract Details

  • £59,469 per annum
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Permanent Contract
  • Based in London, SW1P
  • Interviews held on a rolling basis
  • Closing date: 12pm, Thursday 28 August 2025
